Knowledge sharing: a two-way process
In many cases, we will link volunteers to a Ugandan 'counterpart'.
Your counterpart will be someone who will work alongside you and who works in a field relevant to your educational or professional background.
The primary idea behind the concept of a 'counterpart' is knowledge sharing.
When you are in Uganda, we think that it is vital that you share the knowledge and skills you possess so that Uganda will continue to benefit from your work long after you have left.
This is the best way to ensure that each of our volunteers has a lasting positive impact.
From the volunteer's perspective, there really is not a better way to learn about Ugandan culture and society than from first hand experience. Working and living alongside a Ugandan provides the perfect opportunity to learn about Ugandan culture, to break down cultural barriers and to learn Luganda.
You will have an opportunity to create a lasting relationship with your counterpart and both of you will gain from the knowledge sharing process.
